This past Sunday, MSW made history with one of its most shocking and controversial events ever: Starrcade 2010: Making History! This event saw the debut of a new venue for MSW events, two title changes, and plenty of surprises!
The event opened up with Lawrence Alfred & The KliniK defending the MSW World Tag Team Championship against Drake Carnage & The Advocate! Due to the nine years of hatred between them, the champions were not much of a team in this match, and Lawrence's students and fellow Catalyst members capitalized after the champions' team broke down, ending with Lawrence spearing The KliniK and The Advocate getting the pinfall to win the title for his team! However, after the match, the first of many huge shockers of the day would take place, as Lawrence attacked Drake (but not The Advocate) and walked away.
The next match was MSW's fourth annual tables, ladders, and chairs match for the MSW World Television Championship. This match was MSW's biggest TLC match yet, featuring seven competitors instead of the usual four, as well as a new stipulation: the match would be won by pinfall or submission, instead of climbing the ladder and grabbing the belt. The champion, Drake Carnage, would face the challenge of four "extremists": BK, Lil Ace, Nate Dogg, and Ozzy Lions! Also in the match were The KliniK's newest ally, newcomer "Bleeding Rose" Michael Maxima, and, as a last minute addition, Derrick Night.
However, no one could have predicted how the TLC match would end. Just a couple of minutes after the start of the match, Drake Carnage pinned Derrick Night, bringing the match to a very early end and rendering every wrestler and fan in the GWA Coliseum speechless. The four "extremists" quit MSW and left the arena in protest, including Ozzy Lions, who was scheduled to challenge The KliniK for the MSW World Heavyweight Championship in a highly anticipated match later that day!
GWA Chairman Lawrence Alfred joined GWA President & MSW Owner The KliniK in the ring to issue a statement about the events that had happened moments before. They revealed that, due to comments that Ozzy Lions had made in interviews earlier in the show, that the four were plotting to take over and ruin the event, and that the GWA leadership set up a staged ending to the TLC match to fire a preemptive shot at them. The KliniK announced that because Ozzy Lions walked out on their match, he would come to the ring later in the show, with the lumberjacks around the ring as planned, to officially declare a forfeit victory over Ozzy, as well as to select one of the lumberjacks to receive the opportunity of a lifetime: a shot at the MSW World Heavyweight Championship!
After all the drama of these events, the mood was lightened when two of MSW's strangest characters returned for one more match, the final MSW match for both Sir Buffkins and X! X, wearing a new mask and new gear, picked up a dominating victory over Sir Buffkins, after which he revealed himself to be The Advocate! The Advocate explained that he was inspired to enter backyard wrestling by watching the original X from 2003 on YouTube, and he decided to start his career as a new version of X before becoming The Advocate!
The show then kicked into high gear, as it was time for the big double main event! MSW World Heavyweight Champion The KliniK made a special grand entrance to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck", with lumberjacks "Bleeding Rose" Michael Maxima, Derrick Night, Drake Carnage, and The Advocate surrounding the ring! The KliniK took a moment to consider each possibility before choosing Drake Carnage as his challenger, with the other three lumberjacks remaining at ringside to fulfill their roles. Drake Carnage made the most of his opportunity, going toe to toe with the more experienced champion and nearly catching The KliniK with his finishing crossbody, but The KliniK took advantage of an opening to hit the KliniKal Depression and get the pin for a record 11th defense of the MSW World Heavyweight Championship!
Before The KliniK could leave the ring in celebration, Derrick Night took the mic and issued a challenge. Derrick Night and The KliniK have had a very heated rivalry dating back to 2008, and Night asked The KliniK to face him for the title in a match to settle the score once and for all! The KliniK refused at first, but some harsh words from Night and the fans in attendance convinced him to accept the match. Wrestling against Night, who was already pumped up for his upcoming main event against Lawrence Alfred, proved to be The KliniK's fatal mistake, as Night picked up a quick victory to end The KliniK's historic 16 month title reign and become the new MSW World Heavyweight Champion, picking up some huge momentum for his match with Lawrence!
After the match, Derrick Night's longtime friend and tag team partner, Da Kid, came into the ring to celebrate with him... and to deliver some more humiliation and punishment to The KliniK! Although The KliniK is "untouchable" (any wrestler attacking him outside of a match will be immediately fired from the GWA) due to his status as GWA President, Da Kid took advantage of a loophole, as his GWA contract had expired earlier that year, and he had been scheduled to sign a new contract that day but had not signed it yet. Turning the tables by being "untouchable" himself, Da Kid delivered a vicious assault to The KliniK, after which a beaten KliniK made a match for January's GWA Inaugural Brawl 2011: Da Kid vs. The KliniK!
Finally, main event time arrived, as Lawrence Alfred defended the GWA World Backyard Wrestling Championship against Derrick Night! Despite darkness and rain creating conditions that were not ideal for wrestling, these two champions delivered a classic match, fighting back and forth with everything they had! Night came close to winning the biggest prize in backyard wrestling on several occasions, but in the end, Lawrence picked up the win to retain the coveted title in his fifth consecutive Starrcade main event! Despite having their differences in prior months, Lawrence and Night showed their true friendship, embracing and celebrating with their respective titles and with mutual friend Da Kid, as MSW Starrcade 2010: Making History came to a close!
Starrcade 2010: Making History was truly a turning point for MSW, with "the poison" (the "extremists") finally being eradicated from the company, plus Derrick Night overthrowing The KliniK as the MSW World Heavyweight Champion! Drake Carnage emerged as a major competitor, and The Advocate showed his first true standout moment on his own. The return of Da Kid also injects a dose of excitement into the future of MSW! How will MSW change as a result of the events of Starrcade? The backyard wrestling world will find out in January, when MSW participates in GWA Inaugural Brawl 2011!
